It is incredible how little literacy there is when it comes to filmmaking and storytelling conventions. Just shows how passively many people consume, rather than engage more intimately with the art form.

From time to time, we all need to reminded. Episode 9 is one of those cinematic moments that needs to commentary. It speaks for itself, and far better than we can.

I think what makes this so much more impactful is having Jacqui interrupting, larger than the action, making it her own personal trauma. And the big neon sign top left. I hope Jacqui never has to go through this again. Never again!

Once i saw that you were watching ep 9, i knew almost immediately that you were gonna cry. This episode is probably the HARDEST one for anyone reacting to this series to stomach. And in some cases literally. Knew some who actually puked at the camp scene, they were so disgusted both physically and emotionally with what the nazis did. The writers of this show made this one of the most memorable series ever written, from characters to action scenes and all the down time and humor in between..

16:28 Something worth mentioning is that the prisoner isn't saying all of them were placed in the camp specifically for being Jewish. He lists doctors, musicians, tailors, clerks, farmers and intellectuals first. Many of those were Jewish, yes, but there other people that were unwanted by the Nazis as well. Homosexuals and other queer people, the mentally disabled, the mentally ill and political prisoners like communists, as well as simply people who protested against, or represented a threat to the Nazi ideologies, propaganda and censorship, like teachers, doctors, artists, writers, newspaper owners and intellectuals. The Jewish people, and other ethnic minorities, bore the brunt of the Nazi atrocities, but others were afflicted by their campaign of hatred as well, even their own. There's a saying: "The first country the Nazis invaded was Germany."

You asked if they did not know, The Allies knew to a point. Rumors from SS troops that where captured. The UK and US Army had pictures of the camps from the air mid war time frame. There was not much that could be done that early in the war. That is one reason they where never bombed as the Allies did not have a super clear picture of what was happening. It was not till the Russians entered Poland and Germany and started finding the camps that the truth was out. the US did not really start finding the camps till late in the war since most of the camps where outside Germany.

Loving these reactions to one of my favorite series. Wondering if youve considered reacting to Haunting of Hill House from 2018. I think youd be very impressed by Flannigan's slow burn, character-first horror. Its the only show that makes me weep as much as Band of Brothers. It also has one of the most impressive long shots I've ever seen in television.

This series reaches deep and touches your soul. It explained to me much of what my father went through and would not talk about. It's a good lesson to learn

What you're seeing here are the guys struggling with PTSD. Many modern Veterans often talk about how they miss the "action" and a lot of them struggle when things go back to normal. To them, "normal" is something they'll never get to know again. I think this is the tone you're picking up on, kind of stand offish, alienated, angry, tense etc. I struggle myself trying to understand this concept as I myself am a combat Veteran. But I think this is what we're seeing here, the guys are struggling with effects of PTSD or combat fatigue as they called it back then. 82nd ABN DIV, OEF Veteran

My father was in special operations ,liberating these camps. He also was in the first unit to link with the Russians . Why I have a massive issue with this illegal regime in the US funding supplying encouraging , NAZI Ukrainians against Russia.

Your the first reactor I’ve seen that has or at least is super vocal about the whole process of making a show/production and it’s really cool everyone always mentions the good night lighting on this show but you bring my attention to things I’ve seen for the past 20 years and didn’t realize they were that good tho I do love this show more than most that come out

Shows and movies usually don't affect me. First Band of Brothers is one of the best shows ever. Having said thar episode 9 is one of the hardest things to watch.

Why we fight.

This is why history is so important (even if painful). As many horrors as there were in the Jewish Holocaust, how many Jews from Germany & Austria fought for the Central Powers during World War 1? I know that's a low one on the list of horrors, but as a veteran, it's always in my mind. Lest we Forget!

The military "understood" shell shock as early as WW1, but it was widely seen as a problem with a soldier's moral make up. It was often seen as a form of cowardice and even as late as WW2 the British army would often stamp LMF on a soldier's records if they didn't return to duty. It stood for Lack of Moral Fibre and would follow the soldier even after he left the service and often affected their ability to find jobs. Luckily, by the end of WW2, this practice was discontinued, and those affected were able to have that classification removed

I've always thought of Band of Brothers as a superior remake of Saving Private Ryan without contrivance. It makes the most use out of Spielberg's strong suits but avoids Hollywood cliches that tainted the film. Band of Brothers captures a lot more of the inhumanityof war. For a while I studied to be a WWII historian. What we see is the part of was happening in '45 that they can show us. When death camps were running, the things that happened there when the deathwork camps were running at full tilt was an entirely worse kind of horror. One of the monograph that came out in the past 30 years focus on sex crimes in the Wehrmacht. They'd strip the female prisoners deemed "useless," strip and rape them, then gas them to death in the execution chambers before carting their bodies to the crematorium. A lot of the US divisions were accused of massacring the concentration camp guards or allowing the prisoners to take revenge. Hard to say what I'd have done if I had been there.
